Welcome to the wonderful world of Du. 

Where did Du come from?

We like to keep it simple

Du is short for "Durham" which is where we started - plus it suggests "do" and we like that.

We were recently asked if it was from the French for "of" as it seemed to be "of the community".  It's not - but we might pretend that was part of the thinking! 

Where is it going?

We would like to think it will:

• lead the social enterprise sector in the transformation of services

• inspire customers and people at local community level to take responsibility for and control of, their lives

How does that work?

We are a Community Interest Company, limited by shares, which means we can act with the entrepreneurial flair of the private sector, without the need to distribute profits to shareholders. Profits are reinvested in community projects in areas where we work.

We work with people who subscribe to this ethos and who are specialists in their field.

We believe good things happen when the right people come together around a good plan. If you have an idea or a plan and some of the people, give us a ring - we would love to help.

How we work:

Blue sky thinking, joined-up thinking, thinking outside of silos and boxes, business process management, systems thinking…….so many ways to think, but what does it all mean and how can we translate all this thinking into action that works and makes services better?

At Du, joined-up thinking is what we do well, and importantly, we are focussed on the mechanisms that make things work.

• work with clients and communities to release and develop the potential of local players.

• develop a design approach to each project in consultation with the stakeholders, moving rapidly to modelling, learning from practical experience to improve the design and enhance the final application.
