Making your ideas Du-able:
That means Desirable

Service Design is about devising or taking ideas that address strategic and corporate outcomes; working with users and choreographing stakeholders to make service experiences desirable.

Just as ergonomics has transformed Product Design, so we see the transformation ahead for Services.

Tesco will deliver your Christmas presents after 9pm, so as not to spoil the child's surprise.  This is service design.
Has your council offered to empty your bin at a more convenient time for you?

Service Design techniques can be applied to brand new services, as well as to improving existing services.

Du is uniquely placed with deep roots in a growing number of communities across the North East, expert practitioners who share the Du ethos, and contacts at the highest level.  But most importantly, we are independent.  We have no agenda, other than the community good as reflected in your organisation's objectives.

"It is essential that we think differently and practically at the same time. In our view communityNET is the most exciting initiative we have seen in the area of rural service delivery for some time.

Create 'simple' points of access in each community, and then join these communities together across a region on a peer to peer basis.

Design
A 50 page document, commissioned by One NorthEast, fleshing out the idea and proposing a methodology for Detail Design by the Design Team and other Stakeholders.

Access4 - design for integrated transport
Back to Top

Access4 / Du-IT

Idea:
Make all the transport currently running through the area available to all people.

Design:
We spent a year of working with experts from around the country as well as local stakeholders resulting in a transport design brief that "meets government policy at every level".

Initially designed around the needs of Durham, it is now attracting interest from other parts of the UK.

Idea:
A Day of Vision and Inspiration in a posh hotel.

Litter Monster

Idea:
A participative drama based where the children seek, find and judge a literal Litter Monster

Design:
A fully costumed actor roams the area around the school where he is found by children, supported by teachers and local police Beat Officers.  He is brought back and tried by a judge with the children acting as prosecution.

The Shed

The Shed

Idea:
Rather than adding a conservatory to the back of a house, build an entire community within a conservatory.

Design:
This means the dwellings and communal blocks are constructed in a weatherproof environment.
The gardens, being in a micro-climate, provide vegetables and fruit year round.
In the middle is a Mediterranean playground, with fruit trees, pools, maybe campsites.
There is a communal building with café, office space etc.
People live independently and share facilities and time according to their needs and aspirations.
